To celebrate its 30th anniversary, a restored version of the film My Neighbor Totoro will be screened from June 13 to 20 in more than 150 theaters in France. The film was also screened at the Annecy Animation Film Festival on June 12 and 13.

Released in 1988, Hayao Miyazaki's animated film was a real success with more than 800 admissions in Japan and more than 300,000 when it was released in France in 1999. It tells the story of Mei and Satsuki who move in with their father in the countryside to be closer to their sick mother. There they meet Totoro, a half-man, half-cat creature who will take the two sisters to meet mysterious creatures that inhabit the forest.

Taking up themes dear to Miyazaki such as childhood, nature and discovery, my neighbor Totoro takes the viewer into a world on the border of post-war Japanese society and the fantastic. A film that appeals to both children and adults, even if it is not the director's most popular work.

This rebroadcast is accompanied by a reissue of the manga adaptation by Glénat editions. Enough to rediscover the work of Hayao Miyazaki while waiting for the release of his next film announced last year by ghibli studios.
