Jacques Audiard does not have to worry about the success of his latest film. The Sisters Brothers received an award even before the start of the 44th American Film Festival in Deauville. The price is brand new and still a bit nebulous.

French director Jacques Audiard is no stranger to red carpets and awards. The Césars, Cannes, Berlin, the BAFTAs, the Oscars… Wherever he went, Jacques Audiard triumphed. His previous feature film, Dheepan, received the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 and was nominated in three categories at the 2016 Césars. This year, Audiard returns with great fanfare. The director crossed the Atlantic and recruited big American names. John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix play Eli and Charlie Sisters, the central characters. They track down Hermann Kermit Warm (Riz Amhed) and his associate John Morris (Jake Gyllenhaal). The Sisters brothers are hitmen tasked with retrieving the formula of chemist Hermann Kermit Warm and then killing him.

Deauville

A future classic?

Jacques Audiard's film is a western adapted from the novel of the same name by Patrick deWitt. The success of the feature film is almost written in advance. The jury of the Deauville festival appreciated him so much that they decided to give him a special prize. The Sisters Brothers is the winner of the Prize at the 44th Deauville American Film Festival. The reward is not based on any specific criteria. The jury simply wanted to highlight "the qualities of its staging, the strength of the interpretation of four major actors of contemporary American cinema – John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Riz Ahmed – [and] salute the producers, thanks to whom such a noble project was born." The director of the festival, Bruno Barde, wanted to "celebrate a work that carries the hope of a better world, of a possible resilience".

The Sisters Brothers will be released in theaters on September 19, 2018. Only a month left before discovering this new work by Jacques Audiard.
