Remember! In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Jason Isaacs played the infamous Lucius Malfoy, the father of Drago, Harry's nemesis. But if he interprets this role to perfection, the actor revealed that he did not audition for this character. In 2017, Jason Isaacs actually revealed to Digital Spy that he almost turned down the role of Lucius Malfoy in the second installment of the Harry Potter saga. The British actor had auditioned to be part of the cast of the film… But not for the role of Drago's evil father. In reality, he hoped to play Gilderoy Lockhart. This character was eventually portrayed by Kenneth Branagh (The Crime of the Orient Express). Jason Isaacs then confides that, when he knew that Warner Bros. was thinking of him to play one of the villains of the saga, he first wanted to say no to them:

I didn't audition to play Lucius, but for Gilderoy Lockhart. I was pretty upset when they asked me to cast for the other role. I was about to play Captain Hook (in the 2003 film Peter Pan) and I didn't want to play two villain roles in children's movies. So I said to my agent: "When they call, say no thanks, explain to them that I will play Captain Hook"… Headvised me to think about it during the weekend. I replied that I didn't want to think about it, that I was flattered, but that it bothered me this story of similar roles in children's films. In the end, over the weekend, my whole family phoned me. My nieces, my nephews, my godchildren and even my parents! They were all trying to persuade me to accept this role. Not only because they cared about me, but also because they dreamed of coming to visit the set! I finally agreed. Thank God I agreed!

Fortunately for him (and for us), Jason Isaacs agreed to play the role of Lucius Malfoy. It is difficult to imagine another actor embodying one of the emblematic characters of the saga. Moreover, the actor played the role of Lucius in all the following episodes of the saga and that, until the Deathly Hallows released in 2011. Today, Jason Isaacs admits that at a time when J. K. Rowling writes the spin-offs on Fantastic Beasts, he would immediately agree to participate in the adventure again if she offered him to return. Ironically, guess who plays Newt Scamander/Norbert Dragonneau, the hero of this new saga? Well, it's Eddie Redmayne, who also auditioned for the second part of the adventures of Harry Potter. At the time, he hoped to play Tom Jedusor, aka During Voldemort. Like what, life is full of (good) surprises! It must be said that we are very happy that Jason Isaacs has finally agreed to embody the character of Lucius Malfoy. Moreover, we offer you the opportunity to rediscover the scene where Jason Isaacs makes his very first appearance in Harry Potter. Given the context now known, the situation seems quite … funny.
