The British band The Maccabees were in concert at La Cigale on Friday, January 29, 2016 and it was breathtaking! We tell you everything!

Johnny Llyod

It all started with Johnny Llyod as the opening act for The Maccabees. Young British full of talent who was delighted to play tonight in Paris, and so were we! He was able to charm us with all the few titles he played and especially Happy Humans and Pilgrims. At the end of his performance he thanked us and wished us a very good concert for what was going to follow with the headliner!

Then finally comes the turn of The Maccabees this British band who are touring in honor of their latest album Marks To Prove It. They enter the stage against a background of rather calm music, put on their instrument and BAM the first notes of Marks To Prove It followed by the cry of guitarist Felix White who sets the tone of the concert: explosive !

Then things continue with Feel to Follow and Wall of Arms. We then continue with tracks from their latest album: Kamakura (the band's next single!!!) and Ribbon Road. And the super nice thing to see is this recognition of the band towards its audience, at the end of each song it will thank its audience, greet it and always have something to say to it. Especially like the title that will follow, Love You Better, where they inform us that this title was written in Paris during the recording of their second album!

The Maccabees

The Maccabees continue to charm audiences with Young Lions, then comes the turn of Precious Time! This time the guitarist encourages us to sing with all our heart, which we will do in addition to hopping!

Then the show continues with Can You GIve It and this time Felix White encourages us to jump, to give everything we have: the atmosphere is at its peak! Things then continue with Spit It Out.

The Maccabees

Things suddenly become calmer again with Silence, spotlight on the pianist who begins to play and then the singer Orlando Weeks accompanies her with his voice: the audience is rocked, hypnotized. Then after playing First Love, X-Ray, No Kinds Words and Grew Up At Midnight, the band announces that the next song will be the last. The dissatisfied public revolts, which amuses the singer since he will mimic a child who chuckles. Then we come back to the serious stuff: the first notes of Something like Happiness reason. At the end the band will leave the stage timidly greeting the crowd.

The Maccabees

Just moments after The Maccabees left the stage the audience began to scream, stamping their feet. Faced with so much enthusiasm the band returns by playing River Song and WW1 Portraits.

Then drummer Sam Doyle intervenes IN FRENCH. He explains that he is the only member to speak French, that their second album was recorded in Paris and that he wanted to thank the public on behalf of the band. Then the other members intervene laughing and saying that they had understood absolutely nothing, which causes general hilarity.

Then the show continues and especially ends with Toothpaste Kisses and Pelican, and the group will definitely leave the stage this time greeting us, thanking.

The Maccabees

In the end the concert given at La Cigale by The Maccabees was great: atmosphere at the rendezvous, a talented band live and communicating with its audience. In short, it was successful and we can't wait for them to come back to Paris!
