Available on Netflix since June 9, Disclosure: Trans Live On Screen is a documentary about the somewhat chaotic journey of transgender people on the Hollywood big screen. From the French title Identités Trans, beyond the image, this work is very interesting and informative. Let's take a look back at this eye-opening documentary.  Being a transgender person is not easy. Insults, harassment or even murder… They see them in all colors. Here, director Sam Feder gives the floor only to the main concerned.

A collective awareness

Disclosure is the documentary to see urgently. Involving many personalities in the world of cinema, it allows everyone to become aware of the reality in which we live. Sometimes forgotten or hidden, this reality deserves to come to light. Actors, screenwriters, producers, directors, singers… The American director interviews a panel of Hollywood personalities, all transgender without exception. Whether it's the well-known Chaz Bono or one of the writers of The Matrix, Lilly Wachowski, the cast is very varied. And this for our greatest pleasure. Netflix's potent "Disclosure" explores how Hollywood has ... Living in a world where "normality" (and quotation marks are very important here!) is to be white, straight and cisgender, being a transgender person is a journey fraught with pitfalls. And being a black or Asian transgender person (for example) is all the more complicated. Difficulty finding work, finding housing, rejection of relatives and society, insecurity on a daily basis… No one has any idea what these people are going through. And Disclosure only shows us part of it.

A very present community

Although little or poorly represented on television or in cinema, the transgender community is beautiful is present. And it's not that much a minority. Booed, mocked and not taken seriously, the multiple representations of this community are very rarely faithful to reality. Fortunately, things are changing. Slowly but surely, as one would say. Increasingly, transgender characters are played by transgender actors. Indeed, society and especially the world of cinema is opening up, learning and above all deconstructing. Review: 'Disclosure: Trans Lives On Screen' Is Essential Viewing Thus, by interviewing all these transgender people, Sam Feder hits the target right in the center. Let the main concerned have the floor, let them speak. That's why Disclosure is so important. It educates us, it opens us to a part of society still too little known, or stuck in old clichés. In conclusion, whether you are trans, cis or whatever, Disclosure is for you. It is the documentary to watch, to inquire, open your mind and become aware of what surrounds you.
