French cinemas reopened their doors on June 22. In the current context, the situation of small cinemas is deteriorating. Indeed, it was already not in good shape before the crisis, but covid-19 is not there to fix things, quite the contrary.  Moviegoers were eagerly awaiting this date of June 22. They were there the first week of reopening. Something to delight French cinemas. However, the health and economic crisis is leaving traces that presage a very complicated summer. Indeed, we can find several reasons for this desertion of spectators.

Health fears

The spectre of Covid-19 is still in the minds of all French people. Even though the government has authorized the opening of halls and other businesses, the risks of contamination are still very real. That's why, locking yourself in a dark room 1h30, or even 2h, with strangers, does not make you want to. Even if wearing a mask is mandatory and the few people in the room promotes distancing, fear is still present.

Films postponed

If we go to the cinema, it is above all for the films on display. However, a lot of blockbusters planned for this year have been pushed back to a later date. We think in particular of Tenet by Nolan or Mulan. This lack of big-budget films is felt because they obviously bring people back to the theater. Their absence creates, therefore, a lack of spectators. Cinema: the worrying situation of French cinemas

It's summer!

The season doesn't really help movie theaters. With this sun, the French want outdoor outings rather than cloistered in a room. Especially after being confined for 2 months, the French intend to enjoy every moment in the sun. Faced with all these elements against cinema, it is difficult to find lucrative solutions. Some theaters are looking to extend the programming of the films on display and others bring the classics out of the closet. Maybe cinemas should think about summer offers on ticket prices to make viewers want to. Because they have found solutions to watch movies without being in a room. Indeed, we see more and more drive-ins, open-air cinemas, everywhere in France. We find the joys of cinema and enjoy the good weather. In short, we combine business with pleasure! In addition, it will also be necessary to deal with streaming platforms like Netflix, which is gradually grabbing ground in cinemas. As you can see, the current situation of French cinemas is rather worrying. Fortunately, French cinema is not to be outdone and still offers some good films to see.
