The day of April 1st is for pranksters: a paper in the shape of a fish stuck on the back, hoaxes of all kinds, in 24 hours pranksters can have a great time. But one question remains, where does the tradition of April Fool's Day come from? Focus on the why of this amazing party. April Fool's Day is known to be the International Day of Jokes. But what is its origin? Several options exist but for the moment, no historian has been able to decide on an explanation.

The origin of April 1st

There are many explanations for why we celebrate April 1st. The best known dates from 1564, with the calendar reform of the King of France, Charles X. Charles X decided to change the date from the beginning of the year to January 1. The new year began either at Christmas, Easter, or on March 25 or until April 1. The change of date spread throughout Christian Europe thanks to Pope Gregory XIII. Many people don't get used to change or have never heard of it. Thinking they were doing the right thing, part of the French people continued to exchange gifts during the holidays, until April 1st. Taken aback, pranksters had the idea of offering them booby-trapped gifts. In France, April 1 is very popular. But, the most heard name in the playground is April Fool's Day. april fool 2196203 1280 April Fools' Day: focus on International Joke Day

Why a fish?

April Fool's Day is the popular name given to the April 1st holiday. This day is celebrated in the majority of the European continent and throughout the world. But now, in some European countries such as England, the name April Fool's Day does not exist. The English speak rather of "april fool's day", which means the "day of the madman of April". A question arises, why fish? The first hypothesis is as follows: during the breeding season at the beginning of April, fishing was prohibited in France. Fishermen were offered herring hanging on their backs. Since then, herring has turned into paper. The second hypothesis is that April 1 is celebrated because of Lent. Fish is therefore favored by believers. The last hypothesis highlights the astrological symbol of the fish representing the end of winter. Ativador Windows
