History

Ippei is a young boy full of energy, with passions for his friends and football. Even though his dream is science fiction, Ippei dreams of adventure where he would be the hero of his own story. One day, a new classmate shows up, in the same class as Ippei. The little girl's name is Hime. She is shy and does not get noticed much. She spends recess time in the classroom instead of having fun, which intrigues Ippei enormously. A few days later, determined to discover what Hime does alone in his corner, Ippei will discover what occupies him so much: the game of chess. chess

A great adventure begins

A lover of great adventure, Ippei will quickly be served. After learning the basic rules of chess and moving each piece, Ippei wants more and wants to make his first match against Hime. This manga illustrates in an understandable way the game of chess, without having to know the course of the game. We see through our protagonist that the game of chess is not a simple game but an opening into a new world or even a new universe. The character of Hime is finally well developed in this first volume and we learn a lot about him. Hime is ill and travels all over the world for treatment. Ippei will then feel betrayed there the announcement of his departure. Although we were able to get attached to this character, it was a short moment. The manga will then evolve more deeply on the young boy, leaving out the girl. Ippei will therefore have to find opponents which will complicate his task. His friends find this game weird and gradually abandon their friend. Ippei will therefore find himself alone, with the chess game, offered by his comrade. Our two main characters will then share the same dream, which is to become a "grandmaster", each on their own.

A rival with two faces

Of course, the script would not be complete if our character had no rival. He will meet Ren, a boy who at first glance seems amiable and well-mannered. But he has a completely different personality when it comes to facing his enemies in chess. Ren wins, with ease, every tournament he plays. This is what makes him an opponent of great importance in the eyes of Ippei. It is without delay that Ippei will face the young champion. He will soon realize that Ren's level is higher than he thought. During their game, he narrowly won, which angered the young Ren. The budding rivalry will give our protagonist the courage to move forward on the right track to surpass his opponents. It was then that Ippei was offered to apply for the great chess tournament. A competition where Ren will be present. Which of the two will then win this great tournament? Under what circumstances will Ippei find his friend? The rest of this work will highlight the rivalry of the two young boys, and perhaps even the budding friendship. This manga about one of the most famous games offers us a good scenario as well as incredible illustrations. Discover without further delay 3 shojo, from the Soleil edition.
