This first February, Focus Feature communicated the first official information about the new feature film (untitled) of the American filmmaker.
Headlining is the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis, the only actor to have won the Oscar for Best Actor three times. One of the Oscars was the result of a collaboration with Paul Thomas Anderson for There Will Be Blood, released in 2007. Alongside the British actor, we can find Lesley Manville (nominated for the BAFTAs for Another Year) and Vicky Kreaps (A Most Wanted Man and Hanna).
With Paul Thomas Anderson, you don't change a winning team! He will collaborate with Mark Bridges for costumes (with whom he has made eight films), BAFTA nominated Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood (with whom he collaborated on There Will Be Blood, The Master, and Inherent Vice) and casting director Cassandra Kulukundis, for the seventh time.
The title is still unknown, but the name "Phantom Thread" can be seen on the film cars.
As for the story, the drama will take place in the United Kingdom in the twentieth century in the world of fashion. The film will focus on the life of a fashion designer employed by high society in the 1950s.
The team has also been spotted in the Yorkshire region of the east of the United Kingdom (in the villages of Whitby, Lythe and Robin Hoods Bay).On the distribution side, Focus holds the rights to the feature film. Universal has the international rights. Paul Thomas Anderson will be cooperating with producers JoAnne Sellar and Megan Ellison. The film will be released later this year.
With such a team, the film promises to be grandiose. We can't wait!
