Launched in 2012 on BBC One, the series Call the Midwife is adapted from Jennifer Worth's autobiographical book of the same name, published in France under the title Call the Midwife. Composed each time of a season of 8 episodes and a special episode for Christmas, the series has just been renewed for three more seasons, reaching at least a ninth season.

This commitment on the part of the BBC One channel comes from the fact that the series Call the Midwife is the most watched drama in the United Kingdom. The series is due to return for Christmas with its special episode that will take place in a mission hospital in South Africa, then the sixth season will be broadcast from January 2017 for eight episodes.

The series is set in the 50s and follows the journey of Jenny Lee, a midwife, one of whose first posts is in a convent, in the heart of an impoverished neighborhood in London's East End. She finds herself facing a poverty that she did not imagine, in situations that sometimes exceed her, but always with one or more births at the end of the day. With her work a doctor and six other midwives, some of whom are nuns.

In France the series was broadcast on D8 in 2014 and then on D17 for the second season. Since then, Netflix has been responsible for its distribution for the other seasons.
