Absentia is a psychological thriller by Matt Cirulnick and Gaia Violo, plunging us into an investigation into a serial killer after an FBI agent is found 6 years after a mysterious disappearance. His return sows a lot of confusion with his relatives and the investigation.
An attractive synopsis
Conrad Harlow, a suspected serial killer, is convicted of the murder of FBI agent Emily Byrne. 6 years later, her former husband Nick who has rebuilt his life, receives a call telling him the location of the place where Emily is detained … Living! At the same time, a body was found near a nearby lake.
A breathless achievement
The first three episodes are very intense, very rhythmic and plunge us very quickly into a stressful atmosphere. In a short time, many things happen and not the least. Important elements of the plot will be revealed putting us immediately in an oppressive and sometimes embarrassing atmosphere. And these green tones that give a rather cold atmosphere are part of this emotional whirlwind that mixes love, doubt, confusion and the spirit of revenge.
It is a brutal return to reality for Emily who, after 6 years of absence, finds her ex-husband having rebuilt his life with a woman raising her son. It quickly becomes painful especially when she tries to re-establish a bond with her son. As for her ex-husband, seeing him with a new wife does not leave her indifferent, she does not seem to have drawn a line under their story. They will be reunited but for the investigation and the accusations against Emily. Is it out of love or a simple desire to know what happened during his 6 years of absence?
A promising start
Absentia is the first series produced in inter-networks, i.e. between all the channels of the Sony group. This series makes us live a real moment of tension and it is effective! Indeed, Absentia is a detective story but the plot and the characters make you want to know more. However, I don't think we should expect too much from this series for fear of being disappointed. Especially since the series started strong with a rhythmic and condensed beginning. In addition, the actress Stana Katic offers us a beautiful performance of a sensitive and torn woman but also strong and reckless.
The series is already available on AXN.
