On November 22, half-hot half-cold, the group Minou performed on the stage of Point Ephémère in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. The opportunity to discover for the first time live, their album Vespéral, released in early November by Cinq7/Wagram.

We met them on the occasion of the release of Vesperal

French pop revelation of the year

Looking forward to seeing them on stage again and to discover how Sabine and Pierre would defend their frankly refreshing project. Between light effects, heavy beats and timeless pop references, time flies as fast as a summer night. Multi-instrumentalists, the members of Minou take the audience behind their keyboards or with their guitars and basses. The room is conquered and dances without restraint on Alphalove or Vesperal. We witness more aerial moments like the sublime Amber Sun, where the lyrics of Pure Shores of the All Saints sublimate this moment of escape. The chemistry is perfect and we would almost feel a wave like Fleetwood Mac if we were to get lost in the games of comparisons.

What there is to remember is that Kitty is delighted to share this moment of intoxication with the Point Éphémère.

'Need for a brutal renewal'

On the title Montreal, Minou sings that there is "need for a brutal renewal" as "an impetus in the icy air". In full line with Christine and the Queens and in the new French pop movement of the decade, Minou sweeps away the codes that stick too easily to French groups. Either too pop and classified in the variety, or too rock and impossible to exploit with the general public, French pop has rarely had its hours of glory, especially in the last 10-15 years.

Kitty plays skillfully with influences. On stage they are rock and amaze. On their album, the electro influences are like a lulling red thread. The basses are omnipresent at all times, and salute the influences of urban music that have rocked generations of listeners for more than 30 years.

The little plus of Kitty is still and always their way of playing with words, in the original language. In harmony and unison most of the time, Pierre and Sabine have fun with esoteric double meanings. Able to sing sadness while making an audience dance, they succeed in what had almost disappeared in Francophone musical culture, at least under a mainstream spectrum.

When will there be a mainstream explosion?

It's a safe bet that Minou will in the coming months, make noise, beyond the borders of indie pop. Their first album, in addition to being successful, deserves a great success. At Just Focus, we wish them good luck!
