While Dune has been released in theaters and Foundation is on Apple TV, a new story deemed unadaptable comes out of the ground: the Incal and the team has just revealed the name of the director: Taika Waititi.

From Thor to Incal

Taika Waititi for Inca (Credit Humanoids, Inc.) Created by Jodorowski and Mœbius in 1980 at the Humanoïdes associés, L'Incal has become a reference in French science fiction. It is therefore not surprising that a film project has been in the works for several years but a major step has just been taken by the revelation of the name of the director: Taika Waititi. This iconoclastic and genius jack-of-all-trades director seems made for this project. He showed his ability to mix gods and science fiction in Thor Ragnarok. Far from blockbusters, Waititi has also shown that he is not afraid of risky projects like Jojo Rabbit. For Incal, he participated in the writing of the script with his collaborators Jemaine Clement and Peter Warren. Indeed, he does not hesitate to say that "Alejandro Jodorowsky's films and comics have influenced me and so many others for a very long time". This choice was made by Fabrice Giger, the director of Humanoids with the support of Jodorowsky.

The Incal, a major story of comics

A reference comic strip by Inca (Credit Humanoids, Inc.) Over the course of six albums of the original series, we followed the misadventures of John Difool. In the future, this rather lamentable private detective survives in a huge megalopolis. His life changes when an alien entrusts him with the Incal. He is then pursued by various factions who are in conflict for this mystical object offering power. The creative duo hit the nail on the head because Jodorowski's mysticism mingled with Moebius humour. The Incal has since become not only the best-selling science fiction comic book but a landmark reference in world comics as shown by the upcoming spin-off Kill Tête-de-Chien by Americans Brandon Thomas and Pete Woods. This series gave birth to the Jodoverse, which encompasses successful comics such as The Caste of the Meta-Barons or Megalex. In the path that leads from the comic book to the film Incal, the choice of Taika Waititi hits very hard and projects the project at the top of the expectations of moviegoers. You can get an idea with the teaser on this link. It is also the first step towards other adaptations of the Humanoids comics in cinema and on platforms.
