New season rhymes with new anime. And the spring season is reputed to be the most filled of all in terms of big novelties, since it represents the Japanese back-to-school!
This year, due to the World Cup, meant that a new football anime would come to the forefront. If the OLM studio offers a new opus of the Inazuma Eleven saga with the series Ares no Tenbin, David Production (Jojo's Bizzare Adventure) prefers to play on the nostalgic fiber with a reboot of the famous Captain Tsubasa franchise (known in France as Olive and Tom). On the program: 52 episodes under the leadership of Toshiyuki Kato, which will be broadcast one hour after Japan on DNA, with a free of one month for each episode!
We take the same ones and start again
Already adapted several times, the Captain Tsubasa recipe does not really change in the background. We find Tsubasa Ozora (Olivier Atton), a true football lover who settles in the city of Nankatsu with his mother. While exploring the city that hosts him, he will meet a shock goalkeeper, Genzo Wakabayashi (Thomas Price). The episode will highlight his qualities as a goalkeeper challenged by many athletes from the nearby college, in vain. Excited by the latter, Tsubasa also wants to challenge him in single combat and to do so, he will use a process that comes out of the banality, revealing his extraordinary abilities for his age.
Captain Tsubasa – Paw David Production
And if the content is the same, what could push you to follow this new series rather than another adaptation? The realization? Indeed! Unlike the first version broadcast between 1983 and 86 or the second in 2001/2002, both made by the Madhouse studio, this new version passes the hand to the David Production studio known in particular for the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure saga. To begin with, the graphic rendering has been revised upwards, something natural, since the last version proposed dates back more than fifteen years, but is still appreciable and not negligible. But that's not all, since David Production adds its personal touch from this first episode, making this pilot more catchy and intense, with certain visual effects or sound effects as well as an interesting rhythm to keep the viewer in suspense.
If the beginning of this new anime looks promising thanks to the paw of the new studio at the controls, it is complicated to know if the production will keep its viewers in suspense during the 52 episodes. In any case, this first part reveals a mastery of the original material, skilfully mixing exhibition scene, power, intensity and suspense, which would have been strange otherwise, given the place of this work within the Japanese heritage.
