Released on DVD in 2010 and Blu-ray in 2013, the animated film The Tomb of the Fireflies was paid for a new collector's edition on November 15, 2017, still at Kazé, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Japanese animation!
The Tomb of the Fireflies is originally a semi-autobiographical novel written by Akiyuki Nosaka in 1967. Called the tomb of the fireflies, this story will then be taken up by the famous Studio Ghibli in film to be released in 1988 in Japan. This is the first work made by Isao Takahata within the studio after The Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro, and it shows a big difference in tone with the titles of his friend Hayao Miyazaki by developing a much harder and darker theme. With its realistic atmosphere, the Tomb of the Fireflies plunges us into the chaotic world of Japan during the Second World War.
And for this edition, Kazé wanted to pay tribute in a beautiful way to the work by making the box in the form of a candy box: the Sakuma Drops! A real candy marketed in 1908 in Japan, these sweets are present in the film, consumed by the main protagonist.
The metal box has:
- The film on DVD and BLU-RAY
- The novel The Tomb of the Fireflies
- 48-page booklet
- Bonus: Team Interview, Director Interview, Promotional Video
